Mr. Thrifty Tip #1: Internet, Internet, Internet. It is all about shopping on the Internet

Historically when you wanted to buy an airline ticket you called your local travel agent. In the olden days, your travel agent would literally call all of the airlines on their rotary phone to find out the airline ticket fares for your trip to Des Moines. No more. Computers and the Internet have made things much easier now by bringing the prices and time schedules from all of the airlines together in one place.

Because of the Internet, the traditional travel agent has gone the way of the thermal paper fax machine. They are still out there, but in most cases you don’t need them. The airlines seem to agree as they have been cutting travel agent commissions for years and trying to drive them out of business.
