Mr. Thrifty Tip #3: Try using desktop toolbars like SideStep

On cool tool that Mr. Thrifty really likes for making travel reservations is SideStep. It is a piece of software that you download from their site (http://www.sidestep.com/) and it sits on your desktop. When you go to one of the travel sites and run a search, SideStep pops up on the right side of your browser and runs the same search on a dozen or so travel websites. A good, lazy way to see if you are getting the best deal without doing all of the work and visiting all of the websites.

On a trip about a year ago that Mr. Thrifty took to China, SideStep found an airline ticket fare that was $200 cheaper than anything that Mr. Thrifty found looking himself. While in China, Mr. Thrifty was able to use the $200 he saved to buy several “genuine” fake DVD’s, Northface jackets, and Oakley sunglasses.
