Mr. Thrifty Tip #5 on How to Save Money on Gas: Rock Bottom Prices at GasBuddy and Wholesale Clubs

If you are really motivated to save as much as you can on gas and want the absolute rock bottom prices, you can check out websites like gasbuddy.com who show prices for several different stations around town.  It is interesting to look at how prices differ from one place to the next.

If you really don’t want to drive all over town or have to hop on the web every time you want to fill up, Mr. Thrifty recommends using your Costco, BJ’s or Sam’s membership.  More and more Sam’s/Costco/BJ’s stores are putting in gas stations on their premises and their prices are LOW.  Makes sense.  None of the wholesale club stores are really looking to make $$$ on their gas sales.  Instead they use gas was a way to lure consumers like yourself into their parking lot.  They hope that while you are there you will remember to pick up the 10-gallon jar of mustard that you forgot the last time you were at the grocery store.

A spokesperson from Costco said that they survey the closest 5 gas stations nearest to their location and typically price their gas $.05/gallon below the competitors.  In Mr. Thrifty’s experience, this is the case.

Total Savings: $.05+ per gallon on your gas
