Beware of Moving Scams

Mr. Thrifty Principle #7: Get things in writing and never pay upfront.

Once you have selected a mover, there are a few things you need to do prior to packing your stuff. These things will help you avoid any surprises down the road:

     - Find out your movers breakage and replacement policy. This will save you frustration down the road.

     - Get everything in writing. The salesperson may promise you the world, but the rubber hits the road when it comes time for the contract. You hope that the move goes without a hitch, however the contract can be your best asset should something go wrong.

     - Never pay up front and only pay if you are satisfied. Remember the Golden Rule: He who has the gold makes the rules. If you pay up front you lose all leverage you have with the moving company.  Also, NEVER hesitate to withhold payment from your mover if the move did not meet your expectations.
